2014 Mariners Outlook

After finishing under .500 for the fourth straight season in 2013, the Seattle Mariners made significant changes to the team throughout the offseason. Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik signed second baseman Robinson Cano to a 10-year, $240 million contract, giving Seattle's lineup a superstar that it sorely needs. Zduriencik also signed free agent Corey Hart and traded for Logan Morrison -- two players who have underperformed in recent years due to injuries. With a trio of new bats in the lineup, expectations are high in the Emerald City for the Mariners.

Seattle's lineup should see improvement from many of its young players. Kyle Seager, Brad Miller and Mike Zunino all project to be contributors in 2014, and the Mariners should see considerable offensive improvement in 2014. Last season, the Mariners finished No. 12 in the American League in runs scored, scoring more runs than only the Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox.

Former Cy Young award winner Felix Hernandez will once again anchor Seattle's rotation in 2014. Mariners fans will get a glimpse of the future in 2014, as top prospect Taijaun Walker should be a fixture in Seattle's rotation. Walker was ranked by Baseball America as baseball's No. 11 prospect -- and the third-best pitching prospect in baseball. Hisashi Iwakuma finished third in the Cy Young voting in 2013, and projects to be Seattle's No. 2 starting pitcher this season, giving the Mariners one of the best 1-2 punches in all of baseball.
