He has been among the best in the league so a healthy Merriman will go a long ways. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie is another player to keep an eye on, as his 2008 season was derailed by injuries. Over the past four seasons Tight End Antonio Gates has repeatedly shown that he is one of the elite receivers in the game. Last year's toe injury limited his contributions but with that out of the way he is going to be providing plenty of highlights for Chargers ticket holders to enjoy.

The Chargers have brought in linebacker Kevin Burnett to help shore up the defense, while rookie and first round draft pick Larry English, Northern Illinois, will be trying to earn a spot on the starting defensive team. The Chargers did loose some important players last year in right guard Mike Goff, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent, along with Igor Olshansky who went to the Dallas Cowboys.
