Recent History: The Chargers eventually appeared about to break the Curse of their city, earning a trip to the post-season in clashes of 2004 by winning the AFC West Division Title. They entered the first round (wild card section) of the playoffs as a lower seed, and proceeded and were knocked out by the New York Jets, who won 20-17 in overtime. Novice kicker Nate Kaeding missed a 40-yard field goal that would have advanced San Diego into the next round, but instead victory belonged to the Jets.
Chargers Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer was nominated NFL Coach of the Year for the 2004-2005 season, and quarterback Drew Brees was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
The Chargers recently unveiled their first uniform redesign since 1988. The new uniform will blend vintage and modern styles. Navy blue will continue to be the main color on the home jersey, but the lightning bolt will be yellow, with blue trim. The pants have a new-style yellow lightning bolt with light blue trim on a navy stripe. The helmet is metallic white helmet with a dark blue face mask. The road white jerseys with navy pants and alternate light blue jerseys to be worn with white pants will also feature the new blend of colors.
San Diego Chargers NewsThe Chargers' 2006 regular season record of 14-2 looked hard to beat as they went into the 2007 season, but their 14-3 drubbing of Chicago Bears in Week 1 was a promising sign. The Chiefs were up next, and they romped to a 30-16 victory, leaving the Chargers record at 1-3, definitely not where they wanted to be. Antonio Cromartie pulled off two magnificent interceptions, including a 70 yard interception that pushed the game beyond the reach of the hapless Texans.
If Chargers Vikings tickets were what you wanted in Week 9, you'd be off to the game to see the Chargers beaten 35-17. Following that, it was all about Chargers Colts tickets, with the Indianapolis side seeking to replicate their Super Bowl run of the previous season. The Sand Diego boys shaded it, 23-21, with superb handling of Peyton Manning, who threw four interceptions in the first quarter. During the next quarter the Chargers launched a 45-yard drive leading to a 4-yard touchdown by LaDainian Tomlinson. The victory pushed them up to 5-4.
Chargers Jaguars tickets and Chargers Ravens tickets were the next objects of desire, and the Chargers went down 24-17 to the Jags, but managed a nice 32-14 against the Ravens, with Kaeding sailing a 41-yard field goal between the sticks in the fourth quarter.
They battered the Chiefs 24-10 the following week, and then it was all about Chargers Titans tickets. The Titans also came under the football cosh, losing 23-17. But one of the more notable results of the Chargers' NFL season was their 51-14 decimation of the Detroit Lions. Kaeding banged a 45-yard field goal skywards, and the Chargers scooped their second AFC West title bid on the bounce, as they say.
The playoffs were fast approaching, and after taking care of the Broncos and the Raiders, the Chargers waded into their postseason schedule with relish. First up was the AFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Tennessee Titans, which the Chargers won 17-6.
