Roxette are a Swedish pop music duo, with Per Gessle on vocals and guitar and Marie Fredriksson on vocals. The two formed in 1986 and rose to international stardom in the late 1980’s with the release of the breakthrough album “Look Sharp!” so it’s no wonder that Roxette tickets are still in high demand. Roxette has 19 UK Top 40 hits and several US Hot 100 hits throughout their career. The groups’ four US number ones were “The Look,” “Listen to Your Heart,” “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride.” Some of Roxette’s other hits include “Dangerous,” Fading Like a Flower” and “Dressed for Success.” Roxette has sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide and achieved gold and platinum status for “Joyride” and “Look Sharp!” in Germany, the US and UK.

Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson first met in Halmstad, Sweden in the late 1970’s. Before joining together, Fredriksson released a number of solo albums and Gessle was the lead singer of Gyllene Tider. Fredriksson first sang with Gyllene Tider in 1981 as a background vocalist for a 1982 album. The band was later renamed Roxette after the 1975 Dr. Feelgood song of the same name. After mild success, the two artists returned to solo careers before later recording “Neverending Love” together on the advice of the managing director of their record label. The song became a hit single in Sweden, selling 50,000 copies and reaching the Swedish Top 10. The two soon released a full-length album “Pearls of Passion“ in 1986.

Their second album was 1988’s “Look Sharp!” with singles “Dressed for Success” and “Listen to Your Heart.” Both singles reached the Top 10 of the Swedish singles chart and the album was No. 1 for fourteen weeks. The third single was “The Look,” which became another Top 10 single in Sweden. An American exchange student brought a copy of the single to a Minneapolis radio station and the song blew up in popularity. All of a sudden, “The Look” became a no. 1 hit and the group was internationally successful as the song topped the charts in 25 different countries and Billboard named the song one of the 20 biggest Hot 100 singles of the year.

Roxette’s most successful single “It Must Have Been Love” appeared in the movie soundtrack for Pretty Woman starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in 1990. The song spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and seventeen weeks total in the Top 40. Billboard named the song the No. 2 Hot 100 single of the year and the song topped the charts in more than 20 countries and the movie soundtrack was certified three times platinum.

Roxette’s best-selling album "Joyride" was released in 1991 and the single “Joyride” became the Roxette’s first no. 1 in Sweden and topped the charts in more than 25 countries. Soon after, Roxette embarked on a worldwide tour, the “Join The Joyride! World Tour.” In 1993, Roxette became the first non-native-English speaking artists to be featured on MTV’s Unplugged series. Roxette released Crash! Boom! Bang! in 1995, and Have a Nice Day which was released in 1999. Room Service followed in 2001 and the album topped the Swedish charts and reached No. 3 in Germany.

Fredrikkson was hospitalized and diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002, which was later successfully removed through surgery. In 2009 Roxette re-united after 8 years and performed together for the first time during Per Gessle's concert in Amsterdam as part of his Party Crasher tour. Their eighth studio album, Charm School, was released in 2011 and peaked within the top 20 of eleven European album charts. The Neverending World Tour, their first in 15 years, started on February 28, 2011 in Russia and includes up to 130 concerts and will run until October 2012. Roxette's ninth studio album, titled Travelling, has been completed with an anticipated release date of March.
