Known to most simply as Romeo, former Aventura lead singer and Latin bachata king Romeo Santos was born in the Bronx and got his first taste of rhythm from the Dominican/Puerto Rican household where he was raised. His foundations in the Bronx hotbed of Latin, rap and R&B music led to the success of the bachata band Aventura including four sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden.

Following the peak of Aventura’s popularity, Santos started his solo career with his debut album Fomula Vol. 1 and the red hot single You which sizzled all the way to the top of the Latin charts. Santos shrewdly stretched the envelope of traditional bachata to include bilingual Spanish-English lyrics and R&B rhythms. His widespread appeal coupled with a unique voice piqued the interest of Will Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment which approached him about starring in a sitcom.
