2015 Hit & Run American Tour

Beginning May 14th in Louisville, Kentucky, Prince and 3rdEyeGirl will tour the U.S. on a more-or-less impromptu schedule. Venues have not yet been announced, but the Purple One is known to crash with little notice because, well, he can. As he said at the 2015 Grammys, "Like books and black lives, albums still matter." Accordingly, he will be supporting his debut album with 3rdEyeGirl, Plectrumelectrum.

Prince Releases New Single "Screwdriver"

Never one to follow conventions, the Purple One continues to flaunt everything! Hear new material like "Screwdriver" alongside "Purple Rain" and other classics at upcoming Prince concerts!

Prince Lifts Whitney Houston Concert Ban

After reports that Prince had banned Whitney Houston from attending any of his shows, his manager released a statement stating that Houston is welcome at all of his shows "4 all of eternity." Apparently someone in his crew made the decision without proper consulation with "The Artist." Prince continues to be a stand-up individual with this classy outreach to Houston who is an old friend.

Whitney Houston Barred from Prince Gigs

Whitney Houston's most recent trip to rehab was preceded by a number of Prince concerts at which the chart-topping diva appeared extremely intoxicated. Whitney reportedly hounded the Purple One for free Prince tickets prior to attending the events and, while at the shows, demanded that she be allowed on stage to perform. Prince has had a variety of guest artists perform at his shows, but his crew, conscious of Houston's debilitated state, didn't want the legend to embarrass herself.

About Prince

The artist formerly known as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince," who after a failed attempt to translate his name into an unpronounceable symbol O(+>, is once again going by his royal moniker. He has always thrived on controversy; he even released a 1981 album titled Controversy.

In recent years, however, Prince has turned from simply generating buzz to exploring the artistic roots of his funk music. On Musicology, Prince pays tribute to James Brown in the title track, and then goes on to deliver the kind of superb lyrical pop-rock that his devoted fans have come to expect.

While Prince's image often inspires heated debate, his song lyrics have ranged from the fairly conservative and mainstream to the kind that provoked outrage from Tipper Gore. In the more easily digestible lyrics for Kiss, Prince declares "You don't have to be rich/ to be my girl/ you don't have to be cool/ to rule my world/ Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with/ I just want your extra time and your/ Kiss." Androgenous yet straight forward, appealing yet curious, Price is a perplexing musician indeed.

Voted 28th greatest Rock & Roll Artist of All Time by Rolling Stone, Prince writes, composes and produces all of his music himself. He plays all of the instruments on his albums, with the exception of brass. It's said that Prince wrote, produced and recorded "When Doves Cry" overnight, which is about what you'd expect from a musical genius.
