Philadelphia Eagles Season Outlook

After last season's disappointing campaign, the Eagles are looking to turn things around in 2013. While they don't have the distraction of a Desean Jackson contract dispute and a sick Jeremy Maclin this year, however, things have been rocky so far in Philly. The death of Andy Reid's son, Garrett Reid, is a tragedy that has galvanized not only the Eagles organization, but the entire NFL in support of the coach. As the Reid family and the Eagles have dealt with the tragic situation, they are anxious to turn to football.

The good news is, the Eagles are loaded with talented players up and down the roster. Eagle's fans will be gobbling up tickets and packing Lincoln Financial Field to see this offensive juggernaut that features Michael Vick at quarterback, Lesean McCoy in the backfield, and WR Desean Jackson giving opposing defenses fits with his big play capability. Even in the tough NFC East, which features the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles offense can hang with anyone. If Jeremy Maclin returns to form, they will be even more dangerous. The Eagles have been much more careful to temper expectations in 2013 though, no proclamations of a "Dream Team" or any guarantees like last year from the since-departed Vince Young. Make no doubt about it though, this Eagles team is confident and has every right to be so. With all the talk about the Giants Cowboys rivalry, the Eagles may be fielding the strongest team in the NFC East. However, one area where they must improve this year is execution and defense.

Many of the questions last year centered on the defense, with former Offensive Line Coach Juan Castillo taking much of the heat for an underperforming group. Many questioned the promotion of Castillo to the defensive coordinator position, after he served as the offensive line coach in previous years. Still, while fans love to blame the coaches, it is the players on the field who have to make plays. The signing of Nnamdi Asomugha last season was the biggest of the offseason, and the Eagles are so convinced that their secondary is strong that they traded Asante Samuel this season. They also added DeMeco Ryans at linebacker, which should help shore up the middle of the field. The defense should be much stronger this year, and if the Eagles can close out games and not give up leads late, this team could possibly make a deep playoff run. They finished last season strong and if they can get off to a good start this year, the rest of the NFC better watch out! Make sure you grab some Eagles tickets and get out to Lincoln Financial Field to see them take on the rest of the NFL in 2013.

Philadelphia Eagles History

With three NFL titles in the days between 1948 and 1960, the Philadelphia Eagles had a successful early life in the league. After those victories, sub-par performances kept the Eagles out of championship contention until 1981. Guided by coach Dick Vermeil, Philadelphia made it to Super Bowl XV, where they were defeated by the Oakland Raiders 27-10. During their run to the Super Bowl, Eagles playoff tickets became extremely hot.

Another mediocre period came to an end in 1988, when the great Randall Cunningham came into his own and remade the position of quarterback, offering a running threat in addition to his passing ability. Cunningham led the team in rushing from 1987 to 1990, rushing for over 1,000 yards and throwing 30 touchdowns in 1990. The Philadelphia Eagles made every playoffs between 2000 and 2004, but in 2005 they were decimated by injuries and other issues, and finished 6-10 just a year after playing in the Superbowl against New England, They have been better since the gutsy signing of Michael Vick and the subsequent trading of Kevin Kolb after Vick shined when he had the opportunity to start. After missing the playoffs by a slim margin in 2011, the Eagles are eager to get back to the playoffs and win Andy Reid an elusive Super Bowl ring in the 2013-2013 season.
