Plot Synopsis:

During the Great Depression, two travelling field workers are on their way to another farm. George Milton is the brains of the operation, smart but uneducated. Lennie Small, on the other hand, is a big, strong man who is mentally slow. The two friends share a dream of settling down on their own piece of land, where all Lennie wants to do is pet the soft bunnies.

The duo is moving on because in the last town they visited, Lennie got in trouble for refusing to let go of a woman's dress, drawing attempted rape allegations. At their new ranch, Curley, the owner's belligerent son, has a flirtatious wife who Lennie is immediately attracted to. Another worker, Slim, gives Lennie one of his dog's new puppies.

When a kindly ranch hand Candy offers to help George and Lennie realize their dream, they are ecstatic. But they run into trouble with Curley, who attacks Lennie only to have his fist crushed. When Curley's wife approaches the friendly Lennie in loneliness, she doesn't realize that she is getting herself into a potentially dangerous situation because he doesn't know his own strength.
