2014 Twins Outlook

2014 is a big year for the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota's Target Field will host the 2014 All-Star Game, and the Twins will attempt to get back into contention after three consecutive losing seasons. After making a number of offseason moves to improve the team, the Twins could find themselves back in contention in 2014 -- and beyond.

The Twins signed starting pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes in the winter, and though neither pitcher will be confused for an ace, both Nolasco and Hughes are talented pitchers that will improve Minnesota's rotation. Hughes should benefit greatly in Minnesota. The former New York Yankees pitcher called new Yankee Stadium home for five years -- a stadium that aids power numbers for left-handed batters. Target Field, Hughes' new home, supresses left-handed power -- something that will certainly help Hughes' numbers.

Minnesota made a big change within the organization as well. Home-grown superstar Joe Mauer will shift to first base permanently, in effort to keep Mauer healthy. Mauer suffered a concussion in August last season that ultimately ended his season. Now at first base, Mauer will avoid the wear and tear that a catcher is subjected to.

While Mauer anchors first base, the Twins patiently await the arrivals of Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton to Minnesota.Baseball America ranked the 20-year-old Buxton as baseball's top prospect. Buxton is set to open the year with Minnesota's AA affiliate in New Britain, Connecticut. Sano, meanwhile, will miss the entire 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

2014 will be an exciting year for the Twins and Twins fans, so don't wait -- and make sure you head out to Target Field, the site of the 2014 MLB All-Star Game, this season! Buy your tickets to see Mauer and the Twins today!
