About the Theatre:The Marquis Theatre, the only Broadway theatre to be located entirely inside a hotel, resides on the third floor of Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. New York City officials allowed developer/architect John C. Portman to construct the building on the condition that a theatre be included, since the development involved the destruction of five old Broadway houses (the original Helen Hayes, the Bijou, the Morosco, the remains of the Astor, and the Gaiety). The theatre opened on July 9, 1986 with a concert show by Shirley Bassey. In the 1990s alone, many high-profile shows graced the stage, including Gypsy, starring Tyne Daly, Victor/Victoria, starring Julie Andrews, and Annie Get Your Gun, starring Bernadette Peters. Since the turn of the millennium, the Marquis hosted the Broadway premieres of Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Drowsy Chaperone (both starring Sutton Foster), and Come Fly Away, among other shows. In April of 2012, the theatre welcomed the first Broadway revival of Evita to its stage. Notable Productions:
