About Marilyn Manson

In his previous life as a music journalist, Brian Hugh Warner was influenced by bands like Queen, David Bowie, Alice Cooper, and Nine Inch Nails. As his alter ego Marilyn Manson (a combination of Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson) developed, Trent Reznor produced his first EP, Smells Like Children, which was certified Platinum and featured the hit single, a cover of the Eurythmics song, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)." Marilyn Manson tickets soon became highly sought after as this track became a mainstay on MTV. His band's debut album, 1994's Portrait of an American Family, was certified Gold and produced the singles "Get Your Gunn" and "Lunchbox." Manson's second full-length album, Antichrist Superstar, was essential to the band's crossover to mainstream music. The lead singles, "Antichrist Superstar" and "The Beautiful People," contributed to the album's enormous success, which sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

Manson’s horror film-inspired persona came about as a result of experiences from his youth revolving around his grandfather’s bizarre fetishes, forever embedding the grotesque imagery into his stage presence on Marilyn Manson tour dates. However, his aggressive style has generated many protests from religious and civic groups like the American Family Association. Manson has since made a successful career for himself and his band nevertheless both on the industrial metal scene and even in the mainstream. He has appeared David Lynch's 1997 film Lost Highway and dated Hollywood actresses Rosie McGowan and Evan Rachel Wood. In addition to appearing on Marilyn Manson tour dates, Warner has a role in the slasher film Splatter Sisters and he’ll appear on breakout singer Skylar Gray’s new album.

Manson's music was again criticized during the aftermath of the Columbine massacre in 1999. There were claims that his songs promoted violence, and thus was a factor in the school shootings. Manson subsequently commented on these allegations in Michael Moore's 2002 documentary, Bowling for Columbine. When asked what he would say to the Columbine shooters, Manson replied, "I wouldn't say a single word to them; I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did." Despite findings that the shooters were not Manson fans after all, his music has been stigmatized due to the media's wrongful accusations. This perhaps influenced Manson to take a break from music and focus on filmmaking. In a 2005 interview with Rolling Stone, Manson said, "I just don't think the world is worth putting music into right now. I no longer want to make art that other people — particularly record companies — are turning into a product. I just want to make art."

However, in 2007, Manson released the band's sixth studio album, the Alice in Wonderland-inspired Eat Me, Drink Me, which debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. There are many literary references on the album, including, but not limited to, Lewis Carroll, Lolita, and vampirism. The single "Heart-Shaped Glasses" was inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's controversial, yet undeniably brilliant,1955 novel. After 2012's Born Villain, Manson is finally releasing his next album, The Pale Emperor (2015) followed by "The Hell Not Hallelujah" tour. To see this multi-talented and brilliant man in the flesh, buy concert tickets now for a show you definitely won't forget!
