The "Angel" album isn't such an innocent affair, though; earlier this year, Mariah updated her Twitter page to unveil her "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" album. The first single -"Obsessed" - came right in at number 11. The song is rumored to be about rapper Eminem, who had previously aimed a tune at Mariah's husband Nick, claiming Mariah for his own. In retaliation, Eminem became abusive toward Carey, while "Obsessed" peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was Mariah's 40th career charting single, making her only the eighth female to score 40 Hot 100 singles. Other singles from "Angel" followed, including "I Want to Know What Love Is", a reworking of the well-known Foreigner hit, which didn't do as well as "Memoirs", peaking at number 60 on the Hot 100. "H.A.T.E.U." the album's curiously titled third single, contains the woeful line, "How'd our fairytale just end up this way?", possibly a telling reflection on Mariah's love affairs, some of which didn't end quite how she must have hoped. Such is the intriguing story of this soul singer who was able to apply herself to just about any genre with great success. They don't make 'em like Mariah Carey anymore; she is the real thing. Don't miss out on your Mariah Carey tickets and this awesome "Angels Advocate tour. Mariah Carey tickets are always sold out and this one will be no exception. Mariah Carey Biography Mariah started singing at a young age. The daughter of a former opera singer and voice teacher, she soon decided to dedicate her life to music. Mariah was writing her own songs by junior high and missed several days of high school while working as a demo singer for recording studios in the area. Eventually, she got her break when Columbia Recods executive Tony Mattola met her at a party and signed her to a recording contract. Mariah later married Mattola. This story helped launch a successful career and she took the music industry by storm, winning Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Vocal Performance. Her career continued on this upward trajectory for several years, but she would fall on hard times. Mariah and Mattola divorced and she entered the hospital in 2001. After struggling for a couple of years, Mariah broke back onto the scene, contributing vocals to Busta Rhymes' "I Know What You Want". She has since come out with a new record that has met with popular and critical acclaim, solidifying her place as one of today's premier pop divas. |
