About Lollapalooza

Developed to provide a common ground for an eclectic group of performers to strut their stuff, Lollapalooza has been a festival staple since 1991. Combining alternative rock. punk, hip hop dance and comedy acts in a single festival, Lollapalooza has always boasted a diverse crowd. It has not only introduced acts like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins and Hole into the mainstream, it has given a voice to political activists and NPO groups.

When Lollapalooza tickets first went on sale, Jane's Addiction singer and Lollapalooza creator Perry Ferrel developed the festival as a Lollapalooza tour, traveling throughout the country summer to summer. The tour was first conceived as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction, the festival was one of the first of it's kind to have multiple dates, allowing more Lollapalooza tickets to be sold and more fans to see Lollapalooza concerts. Allowing fans to utilize a wide forum of expression, the Lollapalooza tour not only provided a top shelf lineup, the Lollapalooza concert also had art displays, circus shows, video games, piercing and tattooing booths, open mike booths and political displays - this mode of operation continues today.

After several successful years, Lollapalooza saw a decline with the fall of alternative rock and grunge. The Lollapalooza tour was shut down and Lollapalooza ticket sales ceased until 2003 when Jane's Addiction reunited - the reformation would prove difficult. His come back album and multiple successful appearances in the spotlight have added fuel to his already legendary force in the music industry. The 2011 Lollapalooza will take place at Chicago's Hutchinson Field Grant Park from Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7.
