The Little Mermaid Information

About the Show:

The Little Mermaid is a stage musical based on the beloved 1989 Disney film and the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale of the same name. The film has become an enduring success and continues to be popular among children and families. The score includes such classic songs as "Part of Your World," "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Poor Unfortunate Souls," as well as new ones written for the stage version like "I Want the Good Times Back," "The World Above," "One Step Closer," "Positoovity," and "Her Voice."

After an out-of-town tryout in Denver in 2007, The Little Mermaid had its Broadway premiere on November 3, 2007. It officially opened on January 10, 2008 and ran through August 30, 2009, after 50 previews and 685 regular performances. Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera) starred as Ariel opposite Sean Palmer (Saturday Night Fever) as Prince Eric, Sherie Renee Scott (The Last Five Years) as Ursula, Tituss Burgess (Guys and Dolls) as Sebastian, and Norm Lewis (Les Miserables) as King Triton. The show has gone on to be produced at theatres around the world.

Plot Synopsis:

Prince Eric sails with his crew despite advice that he should return home to fulfill his duties as future king. Meanwhile, in the merfolk's kingdom below the waves, a concert is being staged in celebration of defeating Ursula, evil witch and sister to King Triton. But Ariel, Triton's youngest daughter, has failed to show up and has embarrassed Sebastian the crab, the composer. Instead, she has been swimming around the surface admiring her relics from the human world. Though contact between merfolk and humans is forbidden, Ariel is fascinated by the world above and yearns to visit it.

After hearing of Ariel's obsession, Ursula plots to use her to claim the throne and the magical trident from her brother. After Ariel saves Prince Eric when he falls overboard, Triton is outraged and destroys her collection of human items. Preying on her fragile state, Ursula gets Ariel to agree to hand over her voice for the chance to be human for three days; if she can get Eric to kiss her, she may remain human, but if she can't, she belongs to Ursula forever. Order your The Little Mermaid tickets to see how Ariel and her friends deal with Ursula's trickery and whether she can find her destiny and true love.
