Legally Blonde is a musical based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the hugely successful 2001 movie of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon. Following the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who follows a man to Harvard Law School and discovers a new life purpose, it is very faithful to the film's plot. It adds peppy song and dance numbers, great comedic turns, and some poignant musical moments. The Broadway production premiered on April 29, 2007 to mostly positive reviews; critics praised it for its fun and upbeat nature. This show is also notable for using a reality show, MTV's Legally Blonde - The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods to find the Broadway replacement for original star Laura Bell Bundy. The show's winner, Bailey Hanks, performed in the show until it closed on October 19, 2008. Two US tours followed as well as a West End production, and the musical is now being produced at regional theatres across the country. Plot Synopsis:

At the UCLA chapter of the sorority Delta Nu, Margot, Pilar, and Serena are preparing to celebrate the engagement of their president, Elle Woods, and her boyfriend, Warner Huntington III. Once Elle finds her dream dress, she joins Warner at a restaurant where she expects him to propose; he dumps her instead, saying that he needs someone more serious if he is going to achieve his dream of becoming a senator by the time he is 30. Elle is devastated, but resolves to follow Warner to Harvard Law School to win him back.

The other students look down their noses at Elle, perky and clad in pink. And Professor Callahan humiliates her in class. After friendly hairstylist Paulette cheers her up, teaching assistant Emmett Forrest offers her a hand and inspires her to start working hard at her studies instead of doting over Warner. Elle agrees, thinking that academic success is the way to Warner's heart. When Professor Callahan announces his choices for his internship program, Warner and his new girlfriend Vivienne both get spots and Warner proposes to her on the spot. Elle is heartbroken until she sees her name on the list as well.

The interns' first big case is that of Brooke Wyndham, a beautiful, young fitness guru who is on trial for the alleged murder of her elderly husband. When Elle discovers that Brooke is a former member of Delta Nu, she vows to keep Brooke's alibi secret (she was having liposuction the day her husband died), even though it would exonerate her. Meanwhile, Elle teaches Emmett how to dress sharply and helps Paulette stand up to her abusive ex and woo a hunky delivery man.

As the trial goes on, Elle makes a breakthrough by outing Brooke's alleged lover as gay. At a celebration that night, Callahan kisses Elle, but she spurns his advances. Vivienne and Warner see the kiss, but only Vivienne sees Elle slap Callahan afterward. Thinking that she only got the internship for her looks, Elle prepares to leave Harvard, though Emmett, who has fallen in love with her, asks her to stay.
