Plot Synopsis:

A theatre is producing a musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Conceited director/producer Fred Graham is starring as Petruchio and his ex-wife, movie star Lilli Vanessi, is co-starring as Katherine. The pair is always fighting, and Lilli is upset that Fred is pursuing young Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca. After rehearsal, Lois' boyfriend Bill, who is playing Lucentio, arrives late because he was gambling. He tells Bianca that he signed a $10,000 I.O.U. in Fred's name, and Lois scolds him.

As the show goes on, gangsters arrive looking for their payment, but Fred maintains that he never agreed to pay them anything. When Lilli finds out the flowers she got from Fred were intended for Lois, she threatens to walk out of the show. But Fred gets the gangsters to keep her in the theatre, arguing that he won't be able to pay them if the show has to close. While the actors play through the show, their own backstage drama makes its way onstage in dangerous and hilarious ways.
