About the Theatre:

Designed by Herbert J. Krapp, the John Golden Theatre opened on February 24, 1927 as the Theatre Masque. Its inaugural production was Puppets of Passion, an original play (just over 75 years later, it would become the home of another show known for its puppetry, the bold musical Avenue Q). In 1937, it was purchased by and renamed for producer John Golden. After presenting plays and films through the 40s and 50s, the Shubert Organization bought the theatre and restored it to its legit theatre roots. Since it seats only about 800 patrons, making it one of the smallest houses on Broadway, the John Golden Theatre has presented many successful one- and two-person shows, intimate plays, and revues. It was the original Broadway home of such shows as You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Waiting for Godot, The Gin Game, Master Class, and Oleanna, in addition to the smash hit musical Avenue Q, which ran there for over 2,500 performances.
