About the Show:

It’s Only a Play originally premiered in 1982 on off-off-Broadway and made its way to Off-Broadway in 1986, produced by the award-winning Manhattan Theatre Club. McNally has re-written It’s Only a Play to keep it current throughout the years, and a revised version was launched at the Doolittle Theatre in Los Angeles in 1992, starring Željko Ivanek and Frasier's David Hyde Pierce. On August 2014, the play was revived at New York’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, beginning its Broadway previews and starring the Tony Award-winning Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) and Nathan Lane (The Producers), the Emmy Award-winning Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) and Stockard Channing (The West Wing; Grease), the Academy Award-winning F. Murray Abraham (The Grand Budapest Hotel; Homeland), Micah Stock, and Harry Potter’s best friend, Rupert Grint (Harry Potter films).

Plot Synopsis:

Terrence McNally's It's Only a Play tells the story of an anxious playwright, Peter Austin, on the opening night of his newest production, The Golden Egg. His friend Julia Budder, a rookie producer, throws him an extravagent party to celebrate the play's first performance as Peter nervously waits for the initial reviews to come out. Accompanied by his "best" friend, James Wicker, a theatre critic named Ira Drew, his director Frank Finger, and Virginia Noyes, a substance-abusing diva, Peter finds himself in a very amusing situation.
