Indianapolis Indians Schedule |
The Indianapolis Indians are a minor league baseball team and Triple-A affiliate of the MLB Pittsburgh Pirates. The Indianapolis Indians play in the International League and their home park is Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a strong farm system, with six prospects in the top 101 according to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus. Ninth-ranked Gerrit Cole was the top-ranked Pirate, followed by Jameson Taillon at number 13. With some top young arms, Cole and Taillon may see some time at Triple-A this year for the Indianapolis Indians. With one of the most talented farm systems in baseball, 2013 Indianapolis Indians tickets are a big draw. Founded in 1902, the Indianapolis Indians are the second-oldest minor league franchise behind the Rochester Red Wings. In 2011, the Indians commemorated 125 years of professional baseball in Indianapolis with a commemorative patch on their jerseys. The Indianapolis Indians were affiliated with the MLB Cleveland Indians from 1952-1956 but have long since kept the name. They have also been affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox throughout their lengthy history. In the 1980s, when the team was affiliated with the Montreal Expos, the Indians won four division titles, four straight league championships and two consecutive Triple-A Classic playoffs in a six-year period. They were helped by a roster chock full of future stars like Delino DeShields, Andres Galarraga, Marquis Grissom, Randy Johnson and Larry Walker. In 2000, the Indianapolis Indians won the league championship and went on to capture the Triple-A World Series. In 1996 when the team moved downtown to a new ballpark, Victory Field, the attendance doubled and Baseball America called it “the best minor league ballpark in America.” In 2001, the Triple-A All-Star Game took place at Victory Field. |
