The Heritage classic is an outdoor hockey game played in Canada, between two Canadian teams. There only have been two games played. The first game was played in 2003 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Montreal Canadians in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. The game was played before a crowd of 57,167 people in temperatures roughly -22 °F including wind chill. The Montreal Canadians ended up victorious with a 4-3 win.

In 2011 the second Heritage Classic was played in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The game was played between the Montreal Canadians and the Calgary Flames in front of a crowd of 41,022. The Flames won the game 4-0 in-6 °F degree temperatures on the ice. It was the first shutout recorded in an NHL outdoor game. It was also the first season that two outdoor NHL games were played, the other being the Winter Classic.
