About the Show:When Hair debuted on Broadway in 1968 (following an Off-Broadway run from October 1967), not only did it cause quite a stir due to its controversial subject matter (illegal drugs, nudity, profanity, political protest), it was a breath of fresh air to the musical theatre scene. It received extremely positive reviews from critics and ran for 1,750 performances. After a history of several subsequent performances in the US and abroad, it was revived on Broadway in 2009 with amazing success, winning the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and launching a smash hit US Tour. Hair's classic rock score is perhaps the true star of the show. It has spawned some of the most recognized and beloved anthems of the hippie counter-culture movement and the musical theatre canon, including "Aquarius," "Hair," "Good Morning Starshine," and "Let the Sunshine In." With messages of love, togetherness, and freedom, Hair is truly a timeless classic. Check out the schedule and get your Hair tickets today to be transported into the world of tribal community and long, flowing locks! Plot Synopsis:Hair focuses on a "tribe" of hippies who profess love and peace in the face of the Vietnam War in a New York City park in 1967. Claude, a good-natured young man from Queens, struggles with being drafted to go fight overseas, wondering whether to listen to his friends and dodge the conscription service. Berger, the wild, uninhibited leader of the tribe, is constantly seeking love from anywhere he can get it. Sheila is a New York University student and a political activist whose romantic relationship with Berger is strained by his "free love" attitude. Woof is a gentle soul who idolizes Mick Jagger, extols sexual freedom, and urges togetherness. Other featured tribe members include proudly African-American Hud, sweet flower child Crissy, and a host of others who satirically portray several historical figures in political demonstrations, including Abraham Lincoln, Scarlett O'Hara, George Custer, Aretha Franklin, and Calvin Coolidge. Over the course of the show, the group protests in various ways, including marveling at the glory of their long, wild hair, singing of the beauty of interracial love, and staging a "Be In." Grab some Hair tickets to see just how uninhibited these loveable hippies can be!
