About the Show:Considered one of the best musical comedies ever written, Guys and Dolls is stuffed with comic situations, unforgettable characters, and memorable songs such as "A Bushel and a Peck," "Luck, Be a Lady," and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat." The original 1950 production won the Tony Award for Best Musical and has spawned countless revivals in the United States, London, and Australia, the most successful and critically acclaimed being the 1992 Broadway version featuring Nathan Lane. A film version starring Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando was also released in 1955. Guys and Dolls is based on Damon Runyon's short stories "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure." The beloved aesthetic of Guys and Dolls is decidedly "Runyonesque," that is, packed with characters and plot elements popular in his stories. The Times Square of the show is packed with fast-moving crooks, cops, gamblers, streetwalkers, drunks, actresses, and other assorted characters with quick wits and even quicker tongues. Their colorful names and peppy dialogue (half formal, half slang) give the show a distinctive character that audiences have come to love. Why not join them? Take a look at the Guys and Dolls schedule and grab a pair of tickets today for an eccentric and hilarious theatre experience. Plot Synopsis:The setting is Depression-era Times Square in New York City. Among the tourists, gamblers, crooks, cops, and drunks, the members of the Save-a-Soul Mission pass by, led by their pious leader, Sarah Brown. Unfortunately, the band is still having little luck finding willing souls to save. Meanwhile, Nathan Detroit, host of a floating craps game, is worried because some very high rollers are in town but he has trouble finding somewhere to host his illegal game. The only place he can find, a parking garage, requires a $1,000 security deposit, which he doesn't have. On a tip from a friend, he decides to try to win the money in a bet from Sky Masterson, a high-roller who will bet on anything. The bet: Sky must get a dinner date with straight-laced mission leader Sarah Brown on his trip to Havana, Cuba. As Sky tries desperately to get the date, Nathan's long-time fiancee, Miss Adelaide, comes by with a present for their 14-year engagement anniversary. She complains that she has a cold from the agony of waiting for a wedding day. Later, Sky finally manages to get Sarah to go out with him when he promises to get her some willing sinners for her mission meeting. While they are in Cuba, Nathan, in desperation, holds his craps game at the mission. When Sarah returns and finds out about this, she is furious and shuts Sky out, even though she has become unexpectedly enamored with him. Meanwhile, Nathan is getting in over his head with some very threatening players in his marathon craps game, Adelaide's symptoms seem to be getting worse as she tries to chase Nathan down, and Sky desperately tries to get back in Sarah's good graces.
