Gotye’s real name is Wouter “Wally” De Backer, an Australian musician and singer/songwriter who plays multiple instruments. He has released three studio albums including 2003’s Boardface, 2006’s Like Drawing Blood, 2011’s Making Mirrors, and one remix album. He has won 5 ARIA Awards. De Backer also performs with Kris Schroeder under the name “The Basics.” “The Basics” have continued to tour and record alongside Gotye, and released four albums between 2004 and 2010.

De Backer recorded his first tracks in 2001 and put together a four track CD which included the song 'Out Here in the Cold.” He went on to produce two more four-track collections and was eventually offered a distribution deal for an album, a collection of the tracks from his three earlier releases. This album was released under the name Boardface in 2003. 2006’s Like Drawing Blood and singles “Learnalilgivinanlovin” and “Heart’s a Mess” were popular releases from the album, which was certified gold after selling 35,000 copies.Like Drawing Blood achieved European success for Goyte in 2008, when his singles charted in Belgium and later throughout Europe. Gotye’s latest album Making Mirrors was released in 2011.
