About Formula One

The FIA Formula One World Championship is the highest class of single-seat auto racing in the world and Formula 1 cars are considered to be the fastest circuit-racing cars on the planet, with speeds of up to 220 mph, quite a thrill for fans with Formula One tickets. Car performance depends on electronics, aerodynamics, suspension and tires, with engines made by Coswirth, Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault and tires by Pirelli. “Formula” refers to a set of rules that that all F1 participants must adhere to.

A set of races referred to as Grand Prix are held on circuits and public roads as drivers obtain points towards the championship. Point totals from each race are combined to determine two annual Formula One World Championships, one for drivers and one for constructors. In each race the top ten F1 cars are awarded points with the winner receiving 25 points, with a total of 24 drivers and 12 constructors in 2012. About half of the events occur in Europe, the F1's traditional base although an increasing number of Grand Prix are held on other continents. Yes there is demand for F1 tickets all across the globe! The 2012 season will have 20 races, starting with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 16-18 and ending with the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo on November 23-25. The 2012 United States Grand Prix will be held in Austin Texas on November 16-18.

F1 History and Notable Names

Formula One originated with the European Grand Prix Motor Racing of the 1920’s and ‘30’s. The inaugural season was in 1950 and the first world championship race was held at Silverstone, United Kingdom and the first constructors’ championship was in 1958. Italian Giuseppe Farina won the first Formula 1 World Championship in his Alfa Romeo in 1950. His teammate, Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio won five F1 championships during the 1950’s, a record which stood for 45 years until German Michael Schumacher won his sixth title in 2003. Schumacher won seven overall which stands as the all-time record. Fangio is considered the grand master of Formula One and is remembered for his dominance during the first decade of F1 Racing. Drivers from the United Kingdom have been the most successful in the sport, with 14 championships from 10 drivers, and 214 wins from 19 drivers.

Formula One Races and Speedways

Each nation traditionally hosted a Grand Prix with the name of the country, but Grand Prix are not always held on the same circuit in each country every year. The British Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix are the only races to have been included every year. New races in Bahrain, Turkey and China present new growth opportunities for Formula One. Other recent additions to the F1 circuit include the Singapore Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Korean Grand Prix and Indian Grand Prix. So the demand for Formula One tickets should only grow. The layout of the circuits vary widely, although in most cases the circuit runs in a clockwise direction and always include a stretch of straight road containing the starting grid and a pit lane. Most of the circuits currently in use are specially constructed for competition. Current street Formula One circuits include Monaco, which is the most famous and historical, and others in Melbourne, Valencia and Singapore.
