About the Show:Fela! is a vibrant and powerful musical based on the music of the Nigerian musician, composer, and political activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti. It won the 2010 Tony Awards for Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, and Best Sound Design, thanks to its visually stunning dance sequences, authentic costumes, and thrilling auditory qualities. A performance of Fela! is more than a show; it is an experience. Audiences are swept away to another world, a realm of pulsing Afrobeat music: a combination of jazz, funk, psychedelic rock, and traditional West African styles which Kuti himself pioneered. But Kuti was more than a musician. He fought against the social and political injustices of his time as well as European cultural imperialism and became an icon for the people of Nigeria and eventually all of Africa. Africans united under his music to voice both their dissatisfaction with the government and their cultural pride. Get your Fela! tickets today and be ready to be immersed in the rhythm of change.
