Don't Dress for Dinner is a play by French playwright Marc Camoletti, and is a sequel another of his plays, Boeing-Boeing, which enjoyed great success in a seven-year-long run in London beginning in 1962, played on Broadway in 1965, and has since been revived in both cities. A quite successful Broadway revival of Boeing-Boeing in 2008 starring Christine Baranski (Mamma Mia!) and Mark Rylance (Jerusalem) was well-received by critics and audiences and won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play (as well as the Best Leading Actor trophy for Rylance). Don't Dress for Dinner is an equally-delightful farce that uses mistaken identity, competing agendas, and dramatic irony to tickle audiences' funny bones. Plot Synopsis:

At his home in the French countryside, Bernard is hoping to send his wife away to stay with her mother for the weekend so he can romance his mistress, Suzanne, a Parisian model/actress. To veil his deeds, he has hired a personal chef, Suzette, and invited his friend Robert over for dinner. Jacqueline answers the phone and confirms the personal chef's appointment. She answers the phone again and is surprised to hear that Robert is spending the weekend, and she is dismayed because the two are having an affair and he will be unavailable. So she tells Bernard her mother is sick and she is staying for the weekend after all.

In a panic, Bernard asks Robert to pretend that "Suzy" is his girlfriend. When Bernard and Jacqueline are at the grocery store, the caterer, Suzette, arrives, and when they return, he introduces her as his girlfriend. Bernard is upset because Robert has got the wrong "Suzy" and Jacqueline is upset because she thought she was his only mistress. As the night progresses and the other "Suzy" arrives, things get very confusing and tense for the unfaithful bunch.
