Detroit Lions Information
Detroit has always loved its football team, since it was moved from Ohio in 1934. In their heyday, the Lions won three
NFL titles between 1952 and 1957. Their fortunes turned afterwards, as they reached the postseason just once from 1958 to 1981. Despite the team's mediocrity, several individuals stood out during those years, particularly defensive back Dick "Night Train" Lane, quarterback Greg Landry, and linebacker Mike Lucci.
In 1975, the Lions moved into the Silverdome, the largest air-supported dome in the world. The team subsequently improved in the 1980s, peaking in the early 1990s, with Hall-of-Fame running back Barry Sanders powering the offense. Coach Wayne Fontes won the NFL's coach of the year award in 1991, as he led the team to a franchise best 12 wins.
Though saddled with a reputation for hard-nosed defense through the years, the Lions have recently put together a high-octane offensive lineup, with three #1 draft picks at the wide receivers positions and highly-rated youngster Joey Harrington at quarterback. With running back Kevin Jones also solidly contributing, Detroit fans are in for a feast of football, and TicketLiquidator has a full menu of great tickets at bargain prices. To get Lions playoff tickets, this is the place.
Detroit Lions NewsThe Detroit Lions began the 2006 season with hopes of improving their 5-11 record from the previous 2005 season. Certain logistic and tactical rearrangements were made to the fabric of their staff and roster in anticipation of the coming football season, which some say unsettled the men from Ford Field, and others say is part of a slow building process. On January 19, Rod Marinelli was hired as the Lions new head coach. Marinelli had formerly acted as defensive line coach and assistant coach at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and many at Ford Field believed he could turn the side around and bring playoff and even Superbowl glory to the Motor City. A new offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, also arrived at Detroit, followed by several new players from the 2006 NFL draft. Among those selected were linebacker Ernie Sims from Florida State University, Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun, and safety Daniel Bullocks from the University of Nebraska. Other choices were Jonathan Scott from Texas, Alton McCann from West Virginia, Southern California's Guard Fred Matua, and Anthony Cannon of Tulane.
The Detroit Lions began their preseason with a game against the Denver Broncos, winning 20-13. Unfortunately, they went on to lose their nest three preseason games, against the Browns, the Raiders and the Bills, and they entered the regular season unsure of their own capabilities. Nonetheless, fans were snapping up Lions playoff tickets to Detroit games, and an atmosphere of optimism was evident.
The Lions worst hopes were confirmed when they lost their first four games of the 2006 season, only managing their first win in week six against Buffalo Bills, in a game in which kicker Jason Hanson kicked a 43 yard field goal. The Lions defeated the Bills 20-17, hanging on for the win until the bitter end. They had to wait until week nine to beat the Atlanta Falcons for their next win, and then sadly they embarked on another losing streak which lasted until week seventeen - the last game of the regular season - when they beat the Dallas Cowboys 39-31 at Texas Stadium. The Lions finished fourth in the NFC North Division, an ill-desired location for such a proud club. Lions fans will be looking for redemption on the field come the 2007 season, that's for sure, as 2006 was very definitely nothing to write home about. It is to be expected that tickets to Detroit Lions games will sell as well as ever, and that Ford Field will be rocking with the roars of the loyal ones who never give up hope, for that is what the magic of the NFL is all about.
