Deftones Tour: Black DIamond Eyes Tour Deftones Tour Dates: April - June 2011 Band Members: Chino Moreno, Stephen Carpenter, Frank Delgado, Abe Cunningham, Sergio Vega temporarily filling in for Chi Cheng (on hiatus) What started out as a high school jam session became on of the biggest alternative metal bands to come out of California in the late 80's and 90's. Lead singer Chino Moreno met guitarist Stephen Carpenter and drummer Abe Cunningham in high school in 1988. They soon laid a demo tape with the help of bassist Chi Cheng and decided to keep him in their official lineup. The band would embark on various Deftones tours throughout California with Korn (tickets) before being discovered by a Maverick Records representative who signed them soon after. Deftones' first studio album "Adrenaline" was released in 1995 to a lukewarm audience. After Deftones tickets went on sale however, and the band went on an extensive Deftones tour, internet promos and word of mouth spread and the band garnered a larger following of fans. Deftones was then recruited to contribute to the "Crow City of Angels" soundtrack. The band can also be seen playing the song in a scene from the movie. During the years following, the Deftones released five additional albums, four of which hit the top 10 spots on US charts. The band earned a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Metal performance for the song "Elite" from their third studio album "White Pony." Interest in Deftones tickets was at an all time high around that time and the Deftones tour sold out almost immediatly. The rise to success would be bittersweet for the band who would soon be met with tradgedy. The Deftones latest work "Diamond Eyes" was released after a serious car accident had left Chi Cheng in a semi-conscious state. The album was released in place of "Eros," the unreleased album that features Cheng. The album was recorded without the use of Pro Tools - a complex audio recording and editing program to acheive a raw sound. The Deftones official site states the a portion of each ticket purchased will go to benefit the Chi Ling Cheng Special Needs Trust for continued medical care.
