Danzig is a heavy metal band formed in Lodi, New Jersey. The name derives from their lead vocalist Glenn Danzig, who previously performed in the horror-punk bands Misfits and Samhain. In 1986, Samhain played The Ritz in New York, which eventually would become their final show. Recording Producer Rick Rubin was in attendance, and after seeing Glenn perform with his band he offered him a place on his Def American label. The original intention was to create a punk “Super Group” with other artists signed to the label, but Glenn refused and instead brought on board his former bassist, Eerie Von, and his friends John Christ and Chuck Biscuits. Samhain was no more, and what emerged from the ashes was the newly formed heavy metal band Danzig.

Danzig has not stopped pumping out new music since its creation in 1986. They are most known for their self-titled albums, Danzig, Danzig III: How the Gods Kill, and Danzig 6:66 Satan’s Child. Arguably their most well-known single is Mother, which was released on their first album. The song gained traction after the live version of the song was made into a music video to be played on the popular MTV channel. It peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 43, and reached a high of number 17 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks.

Although Danzig was formed more than 25 years ago, they are still filled with energy for their upcoming tour. In the past 3 years they have performed at a number of festivals and tours, including the “Danzig Legacy Tour” which included songs from both the Misfits and Samhain era. Danzig recently released the song Devil’s Angels named after the 1967 film, with a newly formed lineup. Glenn Danzig announced in April 2013 that he is working on new material for Danzig, possibly featuring Tommy Victor and Johnny Kelly. Still on the horizon is a greatest hits album, which was hinted at in 2011 but never officially released.
