FSU friends Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti formed Creed under the initial name Naked Toddler with Lake High Prep School friends Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips in 1995. The band would already release the rock anthem album My Own Prison on an independant label when they successfully embarked on a Creed tour. After several record labels passed on the chance to sign Creed, Diana Meltzer of Wind-Up Records would discover them at a Creed concert. After remixing and releasing My Own Prison, fans were scrambing for Creed tickets wanting to see hits "My Own Prison," "Torn," "Whats This Life For" and "one" live.

Creed's second album, Human Clay released in 1999 hit the Billboard top 200 chart in the number one position with successful singles "Higher and "With Arms Wide Open." In 2000, Brian Marshall quit Creed and was replaced by Dark New Day's Brett Hesta on the following Creed tour. Fans gathered to support Creed with Creed concert tickets when Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst talked smached during the "Dysfuntional Family Picnic Concert" in New York that year.

Weathered, Creed third studio album released in 2001, received lots of exposure from the WWE. Tracks "My Sacrifice" and "Young Grow Old" would be featured in WWE pay per view series. Creed would receive criticism for their computer graphics driven music video for "Bullet," but they would quickly recover with the release of "One Last Breath."
