2014 Rockies Outlook

The Colorado Rockies last made the playoffs in 2009 -- four seasons ago. Colorado finished under .500 in each of the last three seasons, winning 73, 64 and 74 games respectively. Now in 2014, Troy Tulowitzki and the rest of the Rockies are ready to turn things around, and lead Colorado to another Rocktober.

p> Injuries have been partially to blame for Colorado's lack of recent success. Tulowitzki, Colorado's best player, appeared in only 126 games in 2013 -- and appeared in a meager 47 games in 2012. If Tulowitzki can remain on the field for 140 games this season, not only will Tulowitzki find himself in the MVP race, but the Rockies will find themselves in playoff contention.

Colorado will also need fellow superstar Carlos Gonzalez to remain healthy. Like Tulowitzki, Gonzalez has been hampered by injuries recently, and appeared in just 110 games in 2013.

Colorado's 2014 team will look different from any Rockies team in recent memory, as franchise icon Todd Helton will no longer man first base for the Rockies. Helton retired after last season, and Colorado signed Justin Morneau to take his spot. Morneau, who won the American League MVP award in 2006, has not been the same player since suffering a concussion in 2010. Colorado believes that the thin air of Coors Field will help Morneau rejuvenate his career -- and provide the Rockies with another powerful bat to go along with Tulowitzki, Gonzalez and reigning batting champion, Michael Cuddyer.
