The big news for Bears fans heading into the 2009 Bears season is the acquisition of quarterback Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos [tickets] giving the Bears a reliable QB for the first time in recent memory. While the Bears have fielded competitive teams the past two seasons, they have not been able to get back to the NFL playoffs. Windy City residents with Chicago Bears tickets are hoping the the addition of a franchise quarterback will be enough to get the team over the post-season hump. The Bears missed the playoffs by just one game last season, and with a solid QB the Bears have their sights set on the Super Bowl. The Bears posted a respectable 9-7 record during the 2008 season, good for second in the NFC North. Head Coach Lovie Smith is entering his sixth year at the helm, and with plenty of new tools he should have what it takes to get back to the post-season. You definitely want to see what's happening at Soldier Field so get some Bears tickets soon so that you can see it in action. The Bears have a tough 2009 schedule with games against the Steelers, Falcons, Cardinals, Eagles, Ravens plus two games apeice against the tough NFC North, including the Vikings and Packers. And they are going to have to hit the ground running, as they face off against the Packers in week one and the NFL Champion Steelers in week 2. The breweing rivalry between Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers will be fun to watch, something that you don't need to tell anyone with Bears tickets this or any season. The complete 2009 Bears tickets schedule:
The Bears Offensive OutlookWith Cutler and his arm on board the Bear's offense should be markedly better than last year's. While the rushing offense could use some work, with more depth than last year the Bears offensive line should be able to offer better protection than Kyle Orton got. Cutler has a strong arm and was Pro-Bowler last year. He was able to amass more than 8,000 passing yards the previous two seasons. With the Broncos last year, and with minimal protection, Cutler was able to throw for 4,526 yards including eight touch downs. A guy this good is plenty of reason to get excited, and you better leieve Bears tickets are going to be hot all season long. Running back Matt Forte is very good, and as a rookie was able to rush for 1,238 yards despite opposing defenses not having to worry as much about the Bears passing game. He had an incredible 63 receptions in 2008, and fans with Bears tickets who saw him in action will say he was the best in the league. Forte's explosive speed can leave just about anyone in the dust, but his ability to catch and block make him one of the most dangerous players in the NFL. With Cutler threatening to go deep each down, Forte should definitely be able to improve upon his breakout rookie season, when he accounted for 35 percent of the team's yards from scrimmage. And in kind Forte will be able to help give Cutler plenty of options. And backup Kevin Jones was brought back this season and will be a good second option. While the acquisition of Cutler was the deal of the offseason, the Bears also added three veteran offensive linemen in Frank Omiyale, Orlando Pace and Kevin Shaffer. Between the three the Bears will have enough to keep Cutler safe in the backfield. Pace, picked up from the St Louis Rams [tickets], is a seven-time Pro-Bowler that has been a beast and as left tackle will have the task of protecting Cutler's blind side. Add to that trio six-time Pro Bowl Center Olin Kreutz and Cutler should be able to put on a show if you have Bears tickets, getting off throws with plenty of time. Wide receiver Devin Hester has shown he can be a real deep threat, and Earl Bennett, who caught Cutler at Vanderbilt, should be expected to improve upon last year. Bears ticket holders are hoping Rashied Davis can improve upon a decent 2008 season. Rookie and former Oklahoma Sooner Juaquin Iglesias has drawn rave reviews, and many are expecting him to be one of the biggest stars of the 2009 draft class. Tight end Desmond Clark has done a great job with the football and does a very good job blocking, while Greg Olsen has the speed to hang with anyone and could become one of the best in the league. With some new blood coupled with talented veterans, this could be a very good season to Da Bears. Bears Defensive OutlookAs historically has been the case for the Bears the defense should be one of their biggest strengths, a change from last year. The defense will need to play better than in 2008, when they allowed more than 300 yards per game and were below average in both pass and run defense. New assistant head coach/defensive line coach Rod Marinelli is among the best defensive coaches in the league and will definitely help address what was one of the Bears biggest weakness last season. The Bears defense has historically been their strong point, and they were one of the best in the league a few years ago. With a reinvigorated offense and some new blood the Bears defense should be much improved. Tommie Harris has been a Pro Bowler three times, although he missed last year's due to injury. He will be a big part of the defense if the Bears are to have any success. Expected free safety Josh Bullocks, acquired from the Saints [tickets], is another piece of the puzzle that Bears ticket holders will be keeping an eye on. One of the Bear's biggest strengths are linebackers Lance Brigs and Brian Urlacher, both with multiple Pro Bowl appearances. This might the year that Jamar Williams makes the leap many Bears fans have been waiting for by starting to significantly contribute to the defense. If cornerback Nate Vasher is able to play the way he has in the past, it could be a long day for whoever the Bears are playing. Left end Adewale Ogunleye has had nine or more sacks in four seasons, but he had only five last year, and at 32 he might begin to show his age. If defensive end Mark Anderson can get back to his rookie season form, when he had 12 sacks, the Bears will be in good shape. Anderson had just one sack last year after five in 2007, but with new guys around him could very well be able to turn it around. Kevin Payne looks to return to the safety position after playing there most of last year. He can inflict a lot of punishment on opposing receivers and is going to be counted on the stop teams from scoring. Look for other draft day acquisitions Juaquin Iglesias, Jarron Gilbert or D.J Moore to have some bigs games. All in all the Bears defense should be much better than last years and the team can restore its historical spot among the best defensive teams in the league. If they are able to do their job there is an excellent chance that Bears ticket holders will get a chance to watch the team in the playoffs.
