About the Show:

Cats is one of the best known and most beloved musicals of all time, and its reputation precedes it. Its original London West End production ran for 21 years and its original Broadway production ran for 18. It currently holds the titles of fourth longest-running West End show and second longest-running Broadway show after Phantom of the Opera. Cats won the 1981 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical and several 1983 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score. With Cats tickets, you can experience this landmark musical live onstage.

Composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Phantom of the Opera), Cats is based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. Most of the lyrics are pulled directly from Eliot's verse, the principle exception being the musical theater standard "Memory," with lyrics by Trevor Nunn (the show's original director). The set of the show consists of an oversized junk yard that never changes throughout the show; rather, the characters are responsible for the emotional dynamics and intellectual journey of the audience. The elaborate makeup and costumes conjure up the surreal feline essence that is sure to take you into another world. Cats is a triumphant display of visual beauty and musical profundity. Don't let the opportunity to see this essential show slip away--order your Cats tickets today for an experience you will never forget.

Plot Synopsis:

The Cats gather and explain their group, the Jellicle tribe. They notice the human audience and explain to the spectators how they are named. A dance by Victoria the White Cat signals the beginning of the Jellicle Ball; Munkustrap announces that the wise Old Deuteronomy will choose one Cat tonight to be reborn into a new life on the "Heaviside Layer."

Another Cat, Jennyanydots, is a large tabby who sits all day and rules over the mice and cockroaches at night. The Rum Tum Tugger interrupts her; he is a Tom who is fickle and willful. Then, Grizabella, a shabby, old, grey Cat, stumbles out. The other Cats sing mournfully of her saddened existence. Next, Bustopher Jones, a fat, black Cat, appears; he is an elite Cat who frequents upscale gentleman's clubs. Suddenly, there is a loud crash. The cats run off afraid that it is the infamous Macavity. But it is only Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer, two mischievous burglar Cats who enjoy causing trouble for humans.

At last, the patriarch of the Jellicle Cats, Old Deuteronomy, appears. He has lived many lives and has seen much, and it is his responsibility to decide which of the Cats will move to the Heaviside Layer. After the Cats perform a song for him, he begins to speak about the Jellicle Cats and the Pollicle Dogs until a loud crash frightens the Cats again. Old Deuteronomy calls them all back and the celebration begins. Grizabella reappears and tries to dance, but she is shunned by the other Cats.

After the Jellicle Ball, Old Deuteronomy sings of the true nature of happiness (referring to Grizabella), but the message does not get through to them. More Cats introduce themselves, including Jemima (or Sillabub), Gus (short for Asparagus), the Theatre Cat, and Jellylorum. Skimbleshanks, the Railway Cat, appears and the Cats assemble a train from the junkyard debris.

When a third huge crash booms, the evil Macavity appears. He captures Old Deuteronomy and Demeter and Bombalurina appear and sing of Macavity's past. Suddenly, Macavity appears dressed as Old Deuteronomy. He is found out and finally defeated by Munkustrap and Alonzo, but he escapes. Rum Tum Tugger suggests they find Mr. Mistoffelees, a small, black Cat who can perform magic. He appears and magically brings back Old Deuteronomy to make the Jellicle choice.

Old Deuteronomy sits down and allows Grizabella to address her peers. Despite her tattered state, she makes a moving performance and is chosen to be reborn. Old Deuteronomy addresses the human audience one last time and the show is done. Order your Cats tickets now to see this unique tale performed live!
