About the Show:

Cabaret is a musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff. It is based on the play I Am a Camera by John Van Druten, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood's 1939 short novel Goodbye to Berlin. Originally debuting on Broadway in 1966 and in London in 1968, it was adapted into a wildly successful 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli (Arthur) and Joel Grey (Wicked). The movie won 8 out of ten Academy Awards for which it was nominated.

The now-classic Kander and Ebb score features such songs as "Wilkommen," "Don't Tell Mama," "Maybe This Time," "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," and of course the title number, "Cabaret." The infectious score is one of the reasons this show is produced so frequently, including Broadway revivals in 1987 (starring Joel Grey), 1998 (starring Natasha Richardson and Alan Cumming), and 2014 (starring Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming reprising his Tony-winning performance). Superbad's Emma Stone is taking over for the rest of the 2014 season, playing Sally Bowles until February 2015. Plot Synopsis:

In 1931 Berlin, Germany, as the Nazis are overtaking the country, 19-year-old English singer/dancer Sally Bowles works at the seedy Kit Kat Klub among the cabaret girls, waiters, and the mysterious Emcee. A writer from America, Cliff Bradshaw, arrives in Berlin to work on his novel and soon meets Sally. When her boyfriend, the club owner, throws her out, Sally moves into Cliff's room at a boarding house. Meanwhile, Fraulein Schneider, the boarding house owner, starts a relationship with Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit shop owner and one of her tenants. Ernst, Cliff's business associate and a Nazi sympathizer, warns Schneider that her relationship with Schultz will be dangerous.

As political pressures rise, Fraulein Schneider rethinks her engagement to Herr Schultz while Cliff plans to go to Paris. When he tells Sally he wants her to go with him, she dismisses him and goes back to the club, insisting that politics have nothing to do with her life. But the tide is turning in Berlin and no one's life will ever be the same. Buy Cabaret tickets to find out how these characters cope with life, love, and a new world.
