About Boston

Boston, a rock band from the city of the same name, was formed by songwriter Tom Scholz in the early 1970s. Known for their classic rock hits "More Than a Feeling," "Don't Look Back," and "Foreplay/Long Time," Boston has sold over 31million albums in the United States. Scholz, along with guitarist Barry Goudreau, began by creating demo tapes in Scholz's basement. Together with vocalist Brad Delp, drummer Sib Hashian, and bassist Fran Sheehan, they signed with Epic Records. Their first album Boston was released in August 1976 and still remains one of the best-selling debut albums in American history. During late 1976 and early 1977, Boston also made history at Madison Square Garden, becoming the first band ever to make their New York City debut at the famous venue. Following their first headlining tour, Boston was nominated at the Grammys for "Best New Artist."

Scholz's unique violin-sounding guitar riffs and Delp's distinctive voice made Boston greatly successful, especially on the Billboard charts where it stayed for 132 weeks. Two years later in 1978, Boston released their second album, Don't Look Back, and the title track brought another Top 5 hit for the band. After a legal battle with CBS regarding a breach of contract for not having completed a third album in the specified time, Scholz decided to sign over to MCA records. In 1986, Boston released its third album Third Stage, which featured two new members, Doug Huffman and David Sikes. They remained with Boston until the mid-1990s. Third Stage gave way to the popular single "Amanda," and the CBS case persisted for seven years, after which Scholz eventually won. The RIAA certified their fourth album Walk On as platinum, producing the hit single "I Need Your Love." In 1997, the band released Boston: Greatest Hits, featuring their most popular songs from the previous two decades.

Boston's most recent album Life, Love & Hope is the first since 2002's Corporate America. Life, Love & Hope was ten years in the making having started recording in 2003 and interrupted by Delp's untimely death in 2007. It includes the famous spaceship that appears on all of Boston's album covers. Current members include Tom Scholz, Gary Pihl, Curly Smith, Kimberly Dahme, Tommy DeCarlo, David Victor, and Tracy Ferrie.
