As one of the country’s Big Five orchestras, the Boston Symphony Orchestra is a standard bearer for classical music in the Northeast. Founded in 1881, Boston Symphony tickets to see the orchestra have been thrilling audiences at Boston’s Symphony Hall and the Tanglewood Music Center where a majority of their performances take place.

Founded by a close friend of legendary composer Johannes Brahms, the orchestra passed through many incarnations, notably working with two French directors who had a marked influence on the symphony’s sound. The Boston Symphony schedule has a rich history including commissions for work by Prokiev and Stravinsky as well as a premiere by Bartok.

Under the leadership of former director James Levine, the Boston Symphony Orchestra schedule evolved to feature the work of contemporary composers and the orchestra’s endowment has grown to be one of the largest in the country. Popular recordings include a Grammy Award winning performance of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé as well as a long series of radio broadcasts.
