From the bottom of the barrel to the Hall of Fame, Bonnie Raitt has seen it all. As the daughter of a Broadway musical star and a pianist, music ran in the family for Raitt who picked up her signature slide guitar in her youth. While many of her contemporaries were trekking to Nashville to get their shot, Raitt enrolled in Harvard’s African Studies program. It was there that she met legendary Blues promoter Dick Waterman who would introduce her to Blues legends Howlin’ Wolf and Mississippi Fred McDowell who she would gig with on early Bonnie Raitt tour dates.

Every bit the young upstart, Raitt rallied for a variety of causes, participating in anti-apartheid, anti-Vietnam and anti-nuclear movements and playing gigs all over the Northeast during the late 60s and early 70s where she was discovered by a Newsweek reporter leading to her first label deal.

After several unsuccessful albums, Raitt was dropped by Warner Bros. and spiraled into drug and alcohol abuse before her late 80s breakthrough on her tenth album Nick of Time. Finally the hits began to pour out leading to Grammys for three straight albums and an almost rabid increase in interest for Bonnie Raitt tickets. Raitt has never looked back. In 2000 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and she performed at the 2012 Grammys with Alicia Keys in honor of Etta James.
