Developed in the 80s by performing artists Chris Wink, Matt Goldman, and Phil Stanton, the notorious Blue Men first appeared on the streets of New York City. The Blue Men were uniformly covered in bright blue grease paint, wearing all black, and sporting a bald head. Their characters are separate from human beings, although they assume our shape and form. They have a tendency to drum or create percussive sounds whenever possible. Devoid of the forms of communication common to us, such as speech or sweeping gestures, the Blue Men communicate with piercingly steady eye contact and subtle gestures.
