Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo was a finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for its original and poignant look at the Iraq war. Robin Williams originated the role of the tiger, giving a compelling performance as the beast who wanders the streets of present-day Baghdad observing the atrocities of war and reflecting on the meaning of our existence while Americans and Iraqis alike search for true friendship, direction, redemption, and forgiveness. Plot Synopsis:

As the show opens, a tiger at the Baghdad Zoo tells how most of the other animals have fled because of the war, but most have been shot and killed trying to escape. Later, American soldiers Tom and Kev come to guard the zoo, and the tiger, starving, bites off Tom's hand. Kev shoots the tiger and it begins to die slowly. After the incident, Kev finds himself haunted by the ghost of the tiger, who wanders around the city. Later, when it is revealed that the gun used to shoot the tiger came from the palace of the late Uday Hussein, Tom wants to sell it, along with a solid gold toilet seat, to finance a new life for himself in the United States. But before he can secure the gun, the gun falls into the hands of translator Musa, who was also once Uday's gardener, who is also haunted, by Uday's ghost. The war continues to go on around the characters as they are beset by the unresting spirits of the dead.
