The brainchild of Tool's Maynard Keenan, A Perfect Circle has acheived the cult status of it's predecessor. A Perfect Circle was first developed by Billy Howerdel, a tech from NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, Fishbone and Tool, who met Maynard while on tour. Paz Lechantin soon joined along with Troy Van Leeuwen of Failure and Tim Alexander of Primus. Like Tool, A Perfect Circle bases their hard rock compositions largely on experimental elements - that's where the similarities end. A Perfect Circle defines art-rock and, according to columnist Tracy Frey,"A Perfect Circle is an extension of the alt-metal-fused-with-art rock style popularized by Tool in the early to mid-'90s. A Perfect Circle Incubating Possible New Album

With the APC tour dates getting underway rumors have surfaced about a possible new album from the band. Guitarist Billy Howerdel spoke to the press revealing that APC presently has one song that may be ready for live audiences but that they are still in the process of crafting others and there are no immediate plans to record an album. The Perfect Circle tour is a way for the band to get back into the frame of mind for writing new material and exploring new ideas. All that creative energy may kick the band into high gear. Howedel said that there may be a possibility of returning to the studio some time closer to the end of the year.

A Perfect Circle Working on New Material

A Perfect Circle haven’t played a show since 2004 but, according to Maynard Keenan, they never stopped writing new material. Now, six years later, APC is back on tour and testing out some of their new songs. Rumor has it that Keenan’s other band, a little hard rock outfit known as Tool is also working on their next record.

Since 2000, A Perfect Circle has released three chart topping, alt-rock studio albums, "Mer De Noms" (2000) peaked at the number 4 spot, "Thirteenth Step" (2003) peaked at the number 2 spot and "eMOTIVe" (2004) peaked at the number 2 spot on US charts acheiving gold and platinum status.
