The Canadian Hockey League is unique in that each of the three leagues has its own unique style of play. Recently, the WHL has been playing a much grittier style of hockey that includes heavy hitting and a strong, solid defense. The QMJHL on the other hand, plays a much faster and offensively favoring game. The OHL is known for combining the styles of the QMJHL and the WHL and has a good reputation for producing the most complete players and they are often picked up in NHL drafts. The Shawinigan Cataractes from the QMJHL took home the Memorial Cup in 2012. This year the game will be hosted by the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades on May 17-26.
