Latest 2014 PGA Golf News

Tiger Woods is back. Tiger was all smiles as he strolled up to the 18th green at Bay Hill, as he dominated the Arnold Palmer Invitational and secured the 5-shot victory. You can bet that golf tickets will suddenly be hotter, as Tiger is by far the biggest draw the game has ever seen - and he's back in the winner's circle. After a spectacular fall from grace, a sex scandal and a tell-all book from his former caddy, and even an apparent injury just a few weeks ago, Tiger shrugged it all off and won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It's been a long time since golf fans had a chance to see the trademark fist pump and see TIger hoist a trophy, but suddenly the future looks a little brighter for Tiger. Americans love a comeback story, and rarely has a celebrity ever fell so far from grace in such a short time. Winning makes it all better, and Tiger got his first win in a while, which is always the hardest. Golf tickets for tournaments featuring Tiger Woods will once again be one of the biggest draws in sports, and you can get yours from Ticket Liquidator. Don't forget to get your Masters tickets too, even the other PGA golfers are anticipating Tiger making a big statement this year: "He's [Tiger Woods] going to be a force at Augusta," said Ian Poulter.

Major Golf Events in 2014

The PGA Tour attracts the best golfers from around the world, and includes the four majors and World Golf Championship events. The major championships include The Masters, the US Open, The British Open, and the PGA Championship.

The Masters is played at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia every year since 1934, while the other championships change venues each year. 2014 PGA tour tickets will be in high demand as always, so get your PGA tour tickets from Ticket Liquidator. The most prestigious women’s tour in the world is the LPGA. The LPGA majors include the Kraft Nabisco Championship, LPGA Championship, the US Women’s Open and the Women’s British Open. LPGA tickets are available at Ticket Liquidator, so get yours to see the best women’s golf action in the world in 2014. One of the best things about golf is that as players get older, they continue to play in senior tours like the Champions Tour. The Champions Tour includes the Senior PGA Championship, United States Senior Open, Senior British Open Championship, The Tradition, and the Senior Players Championship. Many legends like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus continued to dominate links as they got older.

Famous Celebrity Golfers

What other game in the world attracts so many celebrities and famous figures? President Barak Obama is known to frequent the links and he famously teamed up with GOP House Leader John Boehner for a day on the golf course to engender some good will in 2011. Sadly, as is evident by the debt ceiling and payroll tax cut fights, the day on the links didn’t lead to any cooperation between the parties on Capitol Hill. Athletes like Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley frequent celebrity tournaments, and videos of Barkley’s awkward swing frequents many late-night comedian shows. Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo is known for his prowess on the golf course, while he has notoriously struggled to repeat the same success on the gridiron.

History of Golf

The modern game of golf originated in 15th century Scotland, where the first written record of golf is James II’s banning of the game in 1457, as an unwelcome distraction to learning archery. To many golfers, the Old Course at St Andrews, dating to before 1574, is considered to be a site of pilgrimage. Golf is documented as being played on Musselburgh Links in Lothian, Scotland as early as 2 March 1672, which is certified as the oldest golf course in the world by Guinness World Records. The world's oldest golf tournament in existence, and golf's first major, is The Open Championship, first played on 17 October 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, in Ayrshire, Scotland. Golf’s ancient roots are a little murkier. Some trace the sport back to the Roman game of paganica, in which participants used a bent stick to hit a stuffed leather ball, chuiwan, a Chinese game played between the eighth and 14th centuries, or cambuca in England and chambot in France. Others believe golf descended from the Persian game, chaugan, or kolven, a game involving a ball and curved bats, that was played annually in Loenen, Netherlands, beginning in 1297. The countries with most golf courses per capita, compiled by Golf Digest in 2005, include Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Canada, Wales, United States, and Sweden. The first golf course in China opened in 1984, but by the end of 2009 there were roughly 600 in the country and expansion continues despite an official ban on new courses.
