Miley Cyrus' recent episode of SNL began with the obligatory acknowledgement of what makes her relevant enough to host the show: her teddy-bear-, tongue-, and twerk-tastic performance on the MTV Video Music Awards and the outrage that followed. In a post-apocalyptic vision, the incident is compared to the government shutdown and the advent of Obamacare, which we wish were much more significant than a pop star's televised gyrations, but that's another discussion altogether.

Pearls before swine.
It has become somewhat fashionable to attack Miley Cyrus on this blog in recent weeks, and who am I to buck a trend? It seems Ms. Cyrus, who serves as high-octane fuel for the Disney juggernaut, is determined to go all the way to Mentaltown. She's festooned across all media as ever, not necessarily for the right reasons. Her post-Hannah digital presence is directly related to high-profile drug use, simulating sex with 37 year old men, and those twerking dwarf slapfest anti... [Read more]
The LPGA has undergone a major makeover in the last few years, after a period of poor marketing, low TV coverage (and nothing live), sponsors leaving and the season being greatly reduced. In 2010, the tour was the smallest it had been in 40 years with just 24 tournaments. With new commissioner Michael Whan in the driver’s seat, the 2011 season saw nearly 40 percent increase in TV viewership of North American events. By 2012, the LPGA experienced live weekend coverage at ... [Read more]
The cards are dealt, the die is cast, the end is nigh. Walter White is dead, long live Heisenberg. The “Cough Theory” advanced by Andrew Romano over at the Daily Beast feasibly depicted the death of W.W. in three stages. First, his money will never reach his family. Saul explained that Walt would never be able to get his family any of the funds he worked so hard to secure for them, the way Mike couldn’t before he was unceremoniously sent off to Belize, not that the Whites would necessarily w... I mentioned in last week's post that I had to look up "twerking." On the other hand, I did not have to look up "cosplay." What does this say about me? [Read more]

Most actors study theatre and, more often than not, their first roles are on stage. Whether they are in community theatre productions, school plays, or they're lucky enough to land paid gigs from childhood, they often need to sharpen their skills in front of audiences before making the leap to the screen.
This year's Emmy Award winners come from a variety of background and have vastly different careers, but most of them have considerable stage acting experience. Ta... [Read more]
Breaking Bad has begun the second part of the final chapter of the picaresque tale of Walter White and where his cancerous diagnosis has brought him. The penultimate season faces him against the DEA’s Assistant Special Agent in Charge, his brother in law. It would seem that Walter would have the support of his wife, Skyler, who nursed him in illness and even runs his car wash which assists in the cleaning and storing of his money but alas she despises him. It would seem Walter would at lea... [Read more]
Google "Who is Red John" and click on a few links, and you'll find yourself embroiled in a storm of passionate fans with strong opinions and theories. There's even a Vegas betting line, and that Robert Kirkland is NOT in last place (which he should be, because he's been depicted talking on the phone with Red John). If I were betting, I wouldn't choose the odds-on favorite, Bret Stiles, but that's admittedly at least partially because I like the character. [Read more]
On August 11 the first of the last eight episodes of America’s most addictive television series premieres on AMC and viewers will finally get to find out what happened following Hank’s epic info dump at the end of the mid-Season 5 finale. At the very beginning of Season 5 in one of Breaking Bad’s classic flash-forwards, we were treated to a vision of Walt with a full head of hair and a fake name, a fraudulent ID and no wedding ring exchanging an envelope full of cash for an M60 machine gun capa... She is, an' all, y'know...
She destroyed our communities, she destroyed our villages, she has destroyed our pits and she tried to destroy our dignity,” - David Hopper, General Secretary, Durham Miners Association.
Today was Margaret Thatcher’s funeral at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. Code-name Operation True Blue, the event was the biggest Prime Ministerial send-off since Winston Churchill in 1965. Her Majesty the Queen was in attendance, as she was at Churchill’s. You’d think that, with a... [Read more]
