December 20, 2013
10. M.I.A. – Bad Girls Even though this song came out in a different version in 2010, and again last year, it was featured one more time on M.I.A.’s 2013 album Matangi and is still one of the best songs of the year with maybe one of the best videos ever. MUSIC Major Lazer Album Title: Free the Universe Release Date: April 16 Due to artistic differences, Major Lazer producers Diplo and Switch have parted ways leaving Diplo alone to pilot the mainstream reggae revival currently underway. Atoms for Peace: Amok Release Date: February 25 Back in 2006, Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke did what lead singers do, he wrote a solo record and called it The Eraser. Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Beck’s drummer Joey Waronker and Brazilian percussionist Mauro Reosco... [Read more]
With the unparalleled certainty of a mathematical equation, it’s a given that any time anyone in the hip hop world starts to shine it’s guaranteed that shade throwers will materialize to do what they do best. In the words of one particular larger than life artist who has been thrown under the bus by the lot, “Everybody I know from the hood got common haters.” Like petty thugs who mock the clothes, the hair and most importantly the work of the players grinding it out in the trenches, these cyni... In a feud that ignited the hip hop world with more rumors, opinions and lawsuits than a Lindsay Lohan car crash, Drake and Chris Brown escalated a potentially conciliatory moment for the thug faithful into a full on gang war. This is what we know for sure. Drake and Chris Brown were both in attendance at SoHo’s W.I.P. nightclub the night of June 14th. An altercation ensued that resulted in several head injuries, the destruction of the night club’s interior and multiple law suits. The Drake/... [Read more]
