With the holy trinity of capital, studio partnerships and now a deal with YouTube locked up, Movieclips.com is poised to become the next big thing on the Internet. A quick look at Movieclips.com reveals clips sorted by theme (Love), greatest moments (Falling Scenes, Car Wrecks) and popular actors. Movieclips patented technology tags scenes with over 1,000 markers including title, actor, director, mood and so on to make that Will Ferrell quote from that hockey movie a hell of a lot easier to find than with conventional search engines. The studios, YouTube and Movieclips will all collect revenue with the studios taking the lions’ share, and just like with Vevo, users will have to sit through the irritating advertising pre-roll to get to the content. With traffic in the millions, even a small fraction of revenue starts to make Movieclips look very appealing.
