With the album cover, release date and first single set, Jay Z and Kanye West leaked another piece of the puzzle leading up to the August 8th release of Watch the Throne: The Tour. Album credits list Jay and Kanye as The Throne and the two are going on tour under that title. A true collaboration between the two has been a long time in the making. Even though they’ve appeared together on massive tracks in recent years including Run This Town and Monster, Jay and Ye have had more of a master/apprentice relationship since the beginning when Yeezy first got his start as a producer at Roc-A-Fella Records, developing his signature soul-sampling sound on Jigga’s The Blueprint and the hit track Izzo (H.O.V.A.). Prior to that Kanye was little more than a fan in the crowd on Jay’s 1999 Hard Knock Life tour. It would take Ye another two years after The Blueprint to emerge as a rapper in his own right with the release of his debut album The College Dropout and the hit Jesus Walks. Flash-forward almost a decade and Kanye’s excitement is almost palpable in the video below when he tweets that he’s working on an album with Jay Z. Kanye also gives Jay a framed picture of the original artwork for My Dark Twisted Fantasy and Beyonce and Russell Crowe make cameo appearances. The album was recorded in Australia, Paris and New York City. The Throne is coming to an arena near you.
