Music festivals are the best way to soak up the sun while listening to many of your favorite artists live. A majority of music festivals occur in the summer since they usually take place outside. Live performances are only one aspect of a typical music festival. There are often many options of additional activities such as lawn games, photo booths and a wide selection of delicious foods. Many music festivals are annual and some are organized as for-profit while others are benefits for specific causes. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the "World’s Largest Music Festival" is Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Summerfest, which is an 11 day event that has held that title since 1999. Summerfest features a collection of artists with Adele and Luke Bryan headlining in 2016. Recurring yearly festival tours include Mayhem Festival, Ozzfest, and Warped Tour, which have shows in a variety of U.S. cities throughout the summer.
Other popular music festivals include the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival held in Manchester, Tennessee, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival located in Indio, California, Governors Ball in New York City, New York, and Sasquatch! Music Festival in George, Washington. One of the newer festivals on the scene is the IHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. And also happening in Vegas, new for 2016 the Route 91 Harvest Festival brings some of the biggest names in country music to Sin City. Some of the most popular electronic music festivals include Electric Daisy Carnival and Ultra Music Festival. Tickets to the Ultra Music Festival had such a high demand in 2015 that early bird tickets were sold out minutes after going on sale and their advanced tickets sold out in twenty minutes. Famous festivals from around the world include Glastonbury Festival in England, Reading and Leeds Festival in England, Primavera Sound in Spain, and Tomorrowland, which is held in Belgium. Music and arts festivals attract music lovers from all over the world to see the best live performances.
Riot Fest (2016 dates: September 2-4 & September 16 – 18) – Riot Fest is a punk, rock, and alternative music festival taking place in the cities of Denver, Chicago, and Toronto. The festival proposes a diverse lineup consisting of buzzed-about reuinions, one-offs, special guest appearances, and popular punk mainstays. In past years, the stages of Riot Fest have seen the likes of Jane’s Addiction, Rise Against, and Weezer.
Electric Daisy Carnival - Las Vegas (2016 dates: June 17 - 19) - The Las Veags Electric Daisy Carnival takes place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over three days and will bring the biggest names in EDM together for a party for the ages. Almost half a million people have attended Electric Daisy in the past, and with names like Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Bassnectar, Tiesto and the other big guns in EDM, you know this is going to be one wild and crazy party.
Burning Man (2016 dates: August 29 – September 5) – Taking place in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, the Burning Man Festival is a week-long celebration of community, art and self-expression culminating in the burning of a large wooden effigy. The event begins on the last Monday in August ends on the first Monday in September, which is also Labor Day.
Austin City Limits (2016 dates: September 30 – October 2 & October 7 – 9) – Taking place at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas, The ACL Music Festival is an annual event that spans over two consecutive three-day weekends. The festival has eight stages where musical groups from genres including rock, indie, country, folk, electronic, and hip hop perform for approximately 75,000 fans each day. In addition to the live acts, there are food and drinks, an art market, and a kids area for families.
Knotfest (2016 dates: October 23-26) – Created in 2012 by metal band Slipknot, Knotfest is becoming a yearly tradition, occurring each fall in different locations. This year’s metal fest is in San Bernadino, CA, October 23rd-26th. In addition to the headliner Slipknot, other performing bands include Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, and The Devil Wears Prada. It’s sure to be a killer good time!
